Language Project

SIIA acknowledges and understands that our languages hold our stories and our teachings. Our core beliefs about where we come from and who we are as a people are deeply rooted in our languages.

We are currently working with four language experts from our Member Nations to translate the key aspects of our Draft Legislation into SENĆOŦEN, lək̓ʷəŋiʔnəŋ, Hul‘q’umi’num, and diitiidʔaaʔtx̣, and plan to add Klallam in the near future.

SIIA also recognizes that our guest community encompasses individuals from many different Nations across Turtle Island and we plan to explore ways of incorporating those languages too. In the meantime, we are focusing on the languages that come from the Nations who belong to the land of the Southern Vancouver Island.

We are beyond excited about this project and look forward to sharing updates about this project with our communities.
